There are three initial phases of this project:
Phase 1 | Research and Community Diagnosis: Design for Agency meets with local organizations to identify areas of interest they are willing to open up to innovative exploration by the greater community. Input from the community is also taken at this time.
Phase 2 | Community Organization: This phase facilitates small groups of community members in a process of discussion and the sourcing and arrangement of resources into actionable ideas that address identified areas of interest.
Phase 3 | Development, Prototyping and Reflection: This phase leads the physical developmentof the action group’s ideas. Small-scale prototypes are implemented, followed by group discussion of what is learned. Those learnings become incorporated into the next implementation until a viable and sustainable outcome is achieved. Partner organization(s) will be invited to regularly sit in on presentations of the various projectphases and iterations to ensure stakeholders are heard throughout the process.
A further goal of the Building Blocks project is to work with NYC local government to recognize citizen-led projects and support them via funding, resources, feedback and policy innovation.
